On November 6, Sven Sakkov presented his credentials to King Charles III at Buckingham Palace, marking the official start of his role as Estonia’s ambassador to the UK.
During their meeting, Ambassador Sakkov and the King discussed security cooperation and reaffirmed the long-standing partnership between the two countries.
“The United Kingdom is Estonia’s oldest and closest ally,” Sakkov noted. “We have stood together for freedom since the War of Independence, through missions in Afghanistan, and continue to do so today.”
Before assuming his post in London, Sakkov served as Estonia’s ambassador to Finland from 2020 to 2025. He has also previously led both the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence and the International Centre for Defence Studies in Tallinn.
Sakkov succeeds Viljar Lubi, who held the position from 2021 to 2025 and is now Estonia’s ambassador to France.
